UCP is an independent not-for-profit organization of public utility, created by the Congregation for Catholic Education under an international treaty, the Concordat between Portugal and the Vatican, and recognised by the Portuguese state in 1971. With its 20 faculties, it contributes to the strengthening of society by producing life-changing science, educated citizens and forward-looking entrepreneurs.


To serve Portugal through innovative research and excellent, internationally bent education, aimed at promoting sustainable development in the spirit of christian humanism.
